Date:December 29, 2015

Johnson County Lowering Bus Fares for 10 Local Routes

(Kansas City, Mo. – Dec. 29, 2015) The Board of Commissioners of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) approved a fare agreement that establishes a regional, local fare. Beginning Jan. 4, fare on local bus routes for Johnson County will be $1.50, the same fare as on MAX and other local KCATA, Unified Government Transit and IndeBus routes. A $50 31-Day Pass will also be valid for fare on local Johnson County bus routes.

Ten local Johnson County routes will see their fare cut by a third to $1.50 a trip from $2.25 a trip.

Further, a $3 Day Pass that’s accepted on five local Johnson County routes will be expanded to include all 10 local routes. The $3 Day Pass, currently available for purchase on KCATA and IndeBus, will be available for purchase on Johnson County local buses and will be good on local buses throughout the Kansas City region.

The reduced fares in Johnson County are another step in creating a simple fare structure for the entire region that’s easy to understand, regardless of where riders live or where they’re traveling. It’s part of a regional push to create a seamless transit network that’s easy to use and connects people to opportunity.
