RideKC Encourages a Safe Holiday with FREE Rides

Date:December 28, 2016

(Kansas City, Mo. – Dec. 28, 2016) On Saturday, New Year’s Eve, all RideKC transit, including paratransit, will be free to help holiday revelers get to and from their destinations safely. RideKC will offer free bus rides through New Year’s Eve until 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

“There’s no better time to let us do the driving than New Year’s Eve,” said Robbie Makinen, KCATA president and CEO. “Customers can get to downtown, the Crossroads, Westport or the Plaza from south Kansas City, Independence and Kansas City, Ks., safely.”

“New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous holidays,” said Rachel Johnson, Victim Services Specialist with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. “With this free ride program you can prevent a family from becoming a victim of an impaired driving crash, maybe even your own family.”

Riders can plan a trip and find out which routes run after midnight at www.ridekc.org, using the trip planner on the home page. Or they can call the Regional Call Center at 816-221-0660, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday service includes service in Kansas City, Mo., Independence, Kansas City, Ks., and North Kansas City.

“Kansas City has had a lot to celebrate over the past year,” said Mayor Sly James. “And I can’t wait to see all the progress we make in 2017. I’m incredibly grateful to KCATA for offering our residents a safe and responsible way to ring in the New Year.”
