New IRIS Transportation Expands to Serve NFL Draft

 (Kansas City, Mo., April 26, 2023) – The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) is pleased to announce that the new IRIS on-demand transportation will extend its service zone for the NFL Draft, April 27-29, 2023, from the Northland to south of the river in Kansas City, Mo.

Riders can begin booking trips with the IRIS app now for trips during the draft. To go to the NFL Draft, search for "NFL Draft" and select the stop at 27th and McGee Trafficway. The expanded area includes the Country Club Plaza, much of Kansas City north of 31st Street, and areas near the Sports Complex.

For IRIS trips from the Northland: To access the NFL Draft from the Northland, passengers must transfer to another vehicle at the City Market in downtown Kansas City. To book the first leg of your trip, specify your pickup location in any of the Northland regions and your destination at the City Market downtown. Then book the second leg of your trip with your pickup location at the City Market and your destination at the NFL Draft pickup/dropoff location at McGee Trafficway & E 27th Terrace.  Be sure that the arrival time of the first leg is before the expected departure time of the second leg!

This new travel option provides expanded connectivity for residents to fill in gaps where a bus stop or other transportation service may not be as accessible. It is provided by Kansas City, Mo., in partnership with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, zTrip and RideCo. 

About IRIS and the NFL Draft

Hours of Service: 4 a.m. – 11 p.m., April 27-29

Cost:

• $5 per person when traveling to entertainment districts, including the NFL Draft and the Country Club Plaza.
• $3 per person per trip within a zone.
• $4 per person when traveling between Northland Zones.
• $10 to/from KCI airport from/to any Northland Zone. Just $10 per trip booking. A trip may have 1 or more passengers traveling together.
• Free fare when connecting to the zone’s designated IRIS transfer point. The NFL Draft temporary service expansion area does not include zone transfer points.

Payments are made at the time of booking in the app or on the website with a credit or debit card. Customers may also select the offline payment option (cash or credit card) at the time of booking. When you board the vehicle, you will pay the driver by cash or credit card. Please have exact change. Drivers do not carry change.

Book A Ride 3 Ways

Mobile App: Download the IRIS app from RideCo in the Google Play store or the App Store. Anyone within the service area boundaries can summon a ride using the mobile app.
Simply enter in your destination address. After you’re done booking you’ll see the trip displayed in your upcoming trip list. The app will provide a window during which you’ll be picked up for your trip. You can also use the app to cancel a future ride. Keep the app open to stay informed on your ride status. Customers using the app will get a notification when their ride is arriving at their pickup location. In addition, you have the option to get updates about your ride’s location via the IRIS app and SMS text notifications.

Your Ride: IRIS vehicles may be a cab or an IRIS only vehicle. Many IRIS vehicles will have distinctive coloring and graphics as seen here. Ztrip cabs serving IRIS customers will have an IRIS or RideKC logo on the side of the vehicle near the back.
