RideKC Freedom On-Demand is being affected by the industry-wide driver shortage. The service has been running with very long service hours and an extended service area since it was created in 2018 and expanded in 2019. Freedom On-Demand volume is high and is affecting our ability to manage the service along with the Freedom paratransit service. Freedom On-Demand trips are negatively affecting regular RideKC Freedom trips, causing longer wait times. We are making changes to put more resources back into RideKC Freedom, while still offering a solution for those who need an on-demand option within the RideKC service area.
