Sam Desue, the KCATA's chief operating officer, has been tapped to serve on the board of directors for the American Public Transportation Association. As a member of the board, Desue will help develop legislative strategies advancing the cause of public transportation in Kansas City and across the country.

VCP, Councilwomen Loar and Hall received the Community Partner Award, which is presented to an individual or organization that demonstrates collaboration and innovation to improve public transit and the quality of life in Kansas City.

In the spirit of community giving, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority supported Summerfest, a back-to-school event providing students with much-needed school supplies. The KCATA provided six buses to take kids from outlying Kansas City schools to the Summerfest event at 29th & Troost.

RideKC transit took about two dozen children from the Tony Aguirre Community Center out to Kauffman Stadium for a tour about a week ago. The event was a partnership between the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and Jackson County as part of the "Kids to Parks" program sponsored by the county.

The Champion of Transit Award was presented to Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James for his long-term support of transit in Kansas City.
