Troost MAX
The Max
Troost MAX is a high-frequency Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line providing fast, reliable service along one of Kansas City’s most important corridors. Running daily, this route travels along Troost Avenue, connecting neighborhoods, employment centers, healthcare, and key destinations from north to south. Troost MAX followed on the success of the first BRT line: Main MAX.
Designed for speed and convenience, Troost MAX features frequent service, limited stops, and enhanced stations—making it a strong option for riders looking to move efficiently across the city. Along the route, riders can access major destinations including downtown, University Health, Children's Mercy, UMKC, Rockhurst University, Hospital Hill, Midtown, Brookside, South Kansas City. With seamless connections to other RideKC routes and the KC Streetcar, Troost MAX plays a critical role in the broader transit network—offering a dependable, easy-to-use option for daily travel.
Green Technology
Troost MAX incorporated green features and technologies. When the line launched in 2011, the MAX fleet introduced KCATA's first five hybrid electric buses, which used both battery power at low speeds and a diesel engine at higher speeds.
Other green features include rain gardens at several MAX stations to capture and filter water run-off, and pervious concrete at a park-and-ride that allows water to soak through to the subsoil, reducing the amount of polluted water that runs off of the pavement surface.
