Streetcar Temporary Service Suspension Begins 1/27, RideKC “Streetcar Link” Bus Service Will Be Provided

Beginning Monday, Jan 27, the KC Streetcar will temporarily suspend service for approximately two weeks for construction. This is an exciting project milestone to connect the existing downtown streetcar starter line to the Riverfront Extension. A dedicated "Streetcar Link" bus service will be provided during this work. This temporary bus service will not impact other RideKC routes.

WHY THE SERVICE SUSPENSION IS NECESSARY

  • Construct new equilateral track at 3rd Street & Grand Boulevard.
  • Connect the existing line to the recently installed Riverfront Extension track.
  • Build a new northbound River Market platform/streetcar stop on Grand Boulevard.
  • Demolition for future two-way cycle track on Grand Boulevard between 2nd - 3rd Streets. 

RIDE KC “STREETCAR LINK” BUS SERVICE WILL BE PROVIDED

  • This is a supplemental RideKC route and will NOT be a redirected route.
  • Most times, 3 buses will run the route. At peak times, there may be 4 buses.
  • Buses are free to ride, operate with regular streetcar hours, and will stop at designated streetcar stops, EXCEPT River Market North at 3rd Street & Grand Boulevard.
  • The service frequency will be 15-20 minutes.

The “Streetcar Link” Bus will route through the City Market during this time. Once a northbound bus leaves the City Market stop at 5th & Walnut Streets, it will travel north (turn left) on Walnut Street through the City Market and travel west (turn left) on 3rd Street. River Market/City Market riders will only be able to access the buses from the City Market stop at 5th & Walnut Streets and the River Market West stop at 4th & Delaware Streets during this time.
