Mokhtee Ahmad Receives Special Recognition Award

A Special Recognition Award was given to Mokhtee Ahmad, Region 7 Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration during last month's Rosa Parks Spirit Awards.

FTA’s longstanding partnership and collaborative spirit has been invaluable to KCATA and other transit agencies throughout the four-state region. Working together with Administrator Ahmad and his team has resulted in a strong public transportation presence locally, regionally and nationally.

When asked what Ahmad would say in Rosa Parks was on the stage with him tonight, he responded that he would say to her, “Ms. Parks, you are now in Kansas City and I am from the federal government and by god, you can sit in any seat in our transit system.”

About the Rosa Parks Spirit Awards

The Rosa Parks Spirit Awards celebrate individuals and organizations that, in the spirit of Civil Rights Leader Rosa Parks, are making a difference in metro Kansas City and in public transit. This marks the sixth year for the awards, whose honorees have included U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, one of KCATA’s first black bus operators Ray Harris, Mayor Sly James, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and the Downtown Council.
