Kansas City, Mo. (Sept.11, 2025) – The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), in partnership with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), is organizing the inaugural MovingKC Regional Mobility Summit, a landmark event that will convene regional leaders, elected officials, business stakeholders, and transportation advocates to explore new funding strategies that support a stronger, more unified regional transit system.
The Summit will serve as a unique opportunity for regional organizations, policymakers, and industry professionals to come together for open dialogue, consensus building, and the development of a shared path to financial sustainability.
“Transit riders’ journeys should not be constrained by city, county, or state lines,” said Reginald Townsend, KCATA Board Chair. “To truly plan for the future and better serve our customers, we need a funding structure that reflects the regional nature of mobility while ensuring fairness for local jurisdictions. The MovingKC Summit is a critical step in bringing our communities together around this common goal.”
KCATA was formed under a Bi-State Compact, but unlike many peer transit agencies, KCATA has no independent taxing authority. The Kansas City region lacks regional funding mechanisms to support investments in transit, bicycling and walking. The Summit will explore new approaches to sustainable funding that could advance projects that benefit transit riders, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
The event will feature two distinguished keynote speakers:
Alongside keynote addresses, the Regional Mobility Summit will include dynamic panel discussions and networking opportunities over breakfast / lunch, all designed to strengthen collaboration across Kansas City’s seven-county, two-state service area.
The MovingKC Regional Mobility Summit is free, but registration is required.
