Board approves four-year contract with transit union

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Board of Commissioners approved a four-year contract extension with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1287 at a special meeting today, Oct. 4, 2017. The ATU also voted and approved the proposed contract agreement. This agreement will be effective January 1, 2018.

“We are pleased that we were able to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” said Robbie Makinen, KCATA President & CEO. “The future for transit is bright and I’m thrilled that our union partners are working with us in shaping multi-modal transit for the next 50 years.”

The Local ATU 1287 represented employees include bus operators, mechanics, maintenance personnel and some office clerical positions.

"This agreement was supported wholeheartedly by our membership because it benefits not only our members, but our customers as well,” said Jonathan P. Walker, ATU Local 1287 President.
