RideKC experiencing increase in service interruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic

RideKC is experiencing an increase in service interruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are struggling to make service due to increased COVID-19 cases and quarantines, retirements, and an industry-wide struggle to hire operators. We sincerely apologize for the disruptions this has caused you.

We are addressing the situation with an immediate plan to hire more operators. Once additional staff are hired and trained, daily service will improve. We are also encouraging our employees to get vaccinated in an effort to reduce cases and quarantines.

We have two methods to help customers prepare for short-term service interruptions:

  • RideKC Notify is a messaging service that will let you know if your route is going to be delayed, detoured or disrupted. RideKC Notify will send messages by text, email, or voice message that will go out when your route is impacted.
  • Download the Transit app to track your bus in real time.

RideKC Freedom

RideKC Freedom is still experiencing long wait times due to high trip volumes, high passenger counts and other pandemic conditions. While our contractors have been aggressively trying to hire drivers to meet the ever-increasing demands, we still struggle to keep up with trip demand.

Please consider using the following alternatives if you need paratransit services.

Freedom On-Demand: This option offers same day service getting you where you need to go, when you need to get there. Freedom On-Demand is a curb-to-curb service for a fee. You can download the Freedom On-Demand app and request a taxi with no advance reservation required. You can also call 816-842-9070 to book a trip if you don’t have a mobile device.  Because of pandemic conditions, you may experience longer wait times during peak and late night hours.

RideKC Bus and MAX transit: Our RideKC Bus and MAX are currently Zero-Fare. Transit offers ADA accommodations for customers who use a mobility device. This no cost transit option is comparable in travel time to our RideKC Freedom trips. You can plan your trip and track your bus using the Transit App.

The Regional Call Center is also open to speak with an agent, but due to a high call volume customers are experiencing long wait times. The Regional Call Center is open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 816-221-0660.
