Customers Embrace RideKC Mobile App|

RideKC’s new app lets riders pay their fare, plan a trip, and track their bus or streetcar.

Riders appreciate how easy the app is to use. Other third-party apps, along with the website, had offered trip planning and transit tracking. The mobile payment function was the most anticipated feature of the new new one-year pilot project.

Now customers can use a credit card to purchase fares through the app. There’s no need to carry around cash just for bus fare. Riders don’t have to keep track of their tickets, passes, transfers or change cards, which were issued in lieu of change when a rider didn’t have exact fare and overpaid the fare.

“I've been really impressed with how easy to use the app is,” said Josh Boehm, an early user. “It loads as fast or faster than Uber and is simple, clean, and elegant. The navigation and bus tracking features are a huge bonus. I'm now able to walk out my front door without cash or looking up a bus schedule, knowing I can get a ride when I need it.”

The new app accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Users will need to set up an account within the app and create a 6-digit PIN. The app can be used on any RideKC fixed route in the Kansas City area, including Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence buses.

With the new app, customers have immediate access to the type of fare they want, whether it is a 31-day pass or a single ride.

The RideKC app is available for the next six months under a pilot program between the RideKC partners (KCATA, Johnson County, Unified Government of Wyandotte County, and Independence) and the vendor team of Trapeze Group and Kentkart.
