RideKC, in partnership with the Kansas City Veterans Administration and the Veterans Community Project, is honoring veterans through a free fare program.
The program allows all area veterans to use RideKC fixed-route bus service for free with a RideKC Veterans Pass. Identification cards are available through Veterans Community Project, 8900 Troost, Kansas City, MO 64131, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Veterans will need to bring a dd214, VA card, or a driver's license with the veteran identifier to receive a RideKC Veterans Pass.
Beginning July 1, no other military veteran’s identification will be accepted on buses for free fare.
VCP will continue to distribute cards after the July 1 deadline. However, riders will need to pay regular fare after July 1 until they get a Veterans Pass. This card will be a photo ID, and will be good until 2020. Veterans Passes will be swiped through the farebox like other RideKC passes.
The three-year initiative is sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Labor Unions/AFL-CIO.
