RideKC will continue to offer free bus rides to federal government workers who were impacted by the recent government shutdown. While employees may have received their back pay, some employees may still be waiting on their transit benefits to become available. Free rides will continue through Friday, Feb. 15.

Government workers affected by the shutdown will simply need to show their government employee ID to board any of the RideKC buses regionwide.
“It’s not about politics, it’s about people,” said Robbie Makinen, CEO and President of KCATA. “We want to pay it forward and assist those who are hurting by taking a little weight off of their shoulders during this time.”
Fares on all RideKC bus routes serving Kansas City, Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence will be free for the affected government workers.
